ceramic artist
Donna J.S. Causland is a ceramic artist and lives in Silverthorne,
Colorado. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1977
with a B.F.A. in ceramics. She has traveled extensively, attended
numerous ceramic workshops, and worked in various types of
ceramic studios around the country. She then began to earn her
living making custom tile, working with interior designers to
incorporate unique tile in their installations. Although she
developed many techniques to achieve a wide variety of glazing
effects, her greatest pleasure was in creating tile in bas-relief. (Her
full line of relief tile is also available through Decorative Materials
in the Denver Design Center and Basalt Colorado showroom.)

Since moving back to Colorado in 1996, she became especially
interested in producing images inspired by the local natural
beauty and wildlife. Her initial series of local trout species in relief
developed into platters with trout and flies on them in a style
reminiscent of the ceramic fish platters of the Victorian Majolica
and Palissy-ware. Her platters and bowl forms range from the
purely decorative in high relief to functional ware and depict the
flora, fauna, and vibrant colors of The Rocky Mountains.

Pinecone Lodge Pottery is a ceramic studio located high in the
Colorado Rockies overlooking Lake Dillon.
